THE LRM

The Loiterers Resistance Movement

October 2025 First Sunday

Dear friends and loiterers

Its First Sunday this Sunday and, as I may have mentioned, its going to be a special one to celebrate the publication of my first book The Feminist Art of Walking. Because psychogeography is time travel the book isn’t officially available until October 20th but of course everything starts with a First Sunday wander….

The book celebrates many amazing women and non-binary folk who have transformed walking into inspiring works of art and activism. It also demonstrates why public space matters and points towards the need for a more holistic and inclusive vision of access. This walking is inclusive and welcoming of all bodies, and includes assistive technologies such as wheelchairs and sticks. This feminism is intersectional, trans inclusive and always learning. Of course the book shares some of my adventures with The LRM, and my heartfelt thanks to everyone who helps make the loiterers such a wonderful wander.

The Walk
As ever our walks are free, and open to all, no ticket needed. We will start around 2pm under the tiled map in Victoria Station on Sunday October 5th. We aim to get to The Eagle around 3.45. The tour will explore some of the themes in The Feminist Art of Walking and share some of my favourite sections of the book. It will be a slow pace with plenty of stops, some of them with seats. There are some uneven surfaces and steps off curbs because we will be on Manchester and Salford streets.

The book launch
We have hired the event space in The Eagle, and  been totally overwhelmed (in the best way) with demand for tickets for the book launch. The room is now at full capacity. I know many cherished loiterers are on the waiting list, and some may not have seen previous requests to register. This presents me with a bit of a conundrum because I really want to celebrate with everyone, so here’s the plan:

Return tickets / Tickets on the door
There will probably be some returned tickets available on the door however I don’t know how many. I do appreciate stuff happens so undoubtedly some ticket holders will cancel or not show up, especially as its free.  We obviously can’t know how much extra capacity there will be, but if you are a ticket holder who has changed their plans please do let me know. I’m sorry I can’t promise anyone who comes on the walk without a ticket for the talk a guaranteed place at the event because The LRM aren’t Ryan Air and we don’t want the room to be uncomfortably crowded.

Therefore: Any returned tickets will be allocated on the door on Sunday on a first come, first served basis from 4.00pm. I’m sorry this isn’t perfect, but we do have faith in the derive and hope this means as many folk as possible can join us.

Alternatively… the pub
The pub will be open from 3pm till late so folk can have a drink and chat regardless of tickets to the event (this will possibly be even better than the event as you don’t have to face me with a microphone).

Other book events
This preview is the start of a UK tour and you would be very welcome at any (or all) of the other events, there are tickets available for all of them including the other Manchester events:  https://www.plutobooks.com/the-feminist-art-of-walking-tour-dates-2025/ There will also be an online event later on in the year.
